What Is Botulinum Toxin
Botulinum toxin (commonly known as Botox) is a medical treatment that produces a temporary relaxation of the muscles that cause certain facial wrinkles. By reducing the movement of these muscles, the skin above them is no longer repeatedly creased, allowing lines to soften.
The effect is temporary and typically lasts around three to four months, after which muscle activity gradually returns to normal.
A series of small injections using a very fine needle are placed into specific facial muscles. The procedure itself usually takes only a few minutes and most people find it very tolerable.
