Improving Skin Quality
from Within
Skin boosters are injectable treatments designed to improve skin quality rather than facial shape or volume. They deliver ingredients that support hydration, collagen production, and overall skin health directly into the skin.
Unlike traditional dermal fillers, skin boosters do not aim to sculpt the face or create structure. Instead, they focus on improving texture, elasticity, and hydration — helping skin appear smoother, fresher, and more radiant.
At this clinic, commonly used options include Profhilo® and Ameela® polynucleotides. The right choice depends on the treatment area, your skin quality, and the concern being addressed.
Profhilo, Sunekos
& Ameela
Three different approaches to improving skin quality. The right choice depends on your skin concern, skin type, and treatment goals — always discussed at consultation.
One of the highest concentrations of hyaluronic acid available in an injectable product. Profhilo spreads through the skin to deeply hydrate and stimulate collagen and elastin production, improving overall skin tone, texture, and firmness.
- Deep hydration and skin remodelling
- Improves skin laxity and crepiness
- Usually 2 sessions spaced 4 weeks apart
- Suitable for face, neck, and décolletage
An injectable combination of hyaluronic acid and amino acids, designed to support skin elasticity, hydration, and overall skin quality. The amino acid complex works alongside hyaluronic acid to support the skin's own structural proteins, making Sunekos particularly suited to areas showing mild laxity and delicate skin areas such as under the eyes.
- Supports elasticity, hydration, and skin quality
- Suited to under-eye area and mild facial laxity
- Course of 3 sessions recommended
- Face, neck, and periorbital area
A regenerative injectable that uses polynucleotide technology to support the skin's own repair processes, stimulate collagen activity, and improve elasticity. Particularly suited to delicate areas such as under the eyes.
- Supports skin repair and regeneration
- Improves elasticity and skin freshness
- Course of 2–3 sessions recommended
- Well suited to under-eye area and delicate skin
What to Expect at
Your Appointment
A straightforward in-clinic procedure that takes around 20–30 minutes with minimal disruption to your day.
Your skin is assessed and the most suitable product selected based on the treatment area, skin quality, and intended outcome.
A series of very small injections placed into the skin using a fine needle. Usually 20–30 minutes. Numbing cream available if preferred.
Mild redness, swelling, or small injection marks can occur and usually settle over the following hours or days. Most patients resume normal activities the same day.
How Skin Quality
Improves Over Time
Skin boosters work gradually — the goal is to improve skin quality, texture, and radiance rather than create immediate structural change.
Common Reasons People
Consider This Treatment
Skin boosters are generally chosen where the aim is to improve skin quality rather than add volume or change facial shape.
Improving hydration and cellular activity can restore brightness and a more rested appearance.
Supporting collagen and elastin helps soften early lines and improve overall skin firmness.
Deep hydration improves skin texture, smoothness, and the overall feel of the skin surface.
Stimulating the skin's repair processes can improve resilience and skin quality over time.
Including delicate areas such as under the eyes where improving skin quality rather than adding volume is the goal.
Supporting skin recovery after treatments such as microneedling or resurfacing as part of a wider plan.
Improving collagen activity can help refine skin texture and overall surface smoothness over a course.
Maintaining skin quality and hydration over time as part of a regular skin health programme.

Skin Boosters
Questions Answered
The most common questions patients ask about how skin boosters work, how they compare to fillers, and what to expect from treatment.
What's the difference between skin boosters and dermal fillers?
The two are often confused but do very different jobs. Dermal fillers are used to change facial shape or add volume — cheeks, lips, jawline, under-eye hollows. Skin boosters do not aim to change shape. They are injected across the skin to improve quality — hydration, texture, elasticity, and overall radiance. A patient wanting a more defined cheekbone needs filler. A patient wanting smoother, healthier-looking skin needs a skin booster. Both can be used together in a wider facial plan, but they are not interchangeable.
Do skin boosters hurt, and is there bruising?
Injections are very superficial, using a fine needle, and numbing cream can be applied beforehand if preferred. Most patients describe mild pinpricks rather than pain. Small injection marks, mild redness, and occasional bruising are normal — bruising is less common with skin boosters than with deeper filler injections, because the injections are closer to the skin surface. Most marks settle over a few hours to a few days.
When can I resume makeup, exercise, and sun exposure?
Makeup can usually be applied the day after treatment once the small injection marks have settled. Strenuous exercise, saunas, and steam should be avoided for 24–48 hours, as heat and increased blood flow can aggravate swelling. Direct sun exposure and sunbeds should be avoided for at least a week, and mineral sunscreen is recommended during recovery. Specific post-treatment guidance is provided at your appointment.
How do Profhilo, Sunekos, and Ameela differ?
All three are skin boosters but use different active ingredients and suit different concerns. Profhilo is pure hyaluronic acid at high concentration — best for deep hydration and overall skin remodelling. Sunekos Performa combines hyaluronic acid with amino acids — suited to mild laxity and delicate skin areas such as under the eyes. Ameela uses polynucleotide technology to support the skin's own repair processes — particularly well suited to delicate areas and patients wanting regenerative effects. The right choice depends on your skin, concern, and goals, and is always decided at consultation.
Who is not suitable for skin boosters?
Skin boosters are not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding, for patients with active skin infections in the treatment area, or for those with known allergies to the product ingredients. They are also not appropriate for patients with certain autoimmune conditions or active inflammatory skin disease. Suitability is always confirmed at consultation with Dr Shah, who will review full medical history before any treatment.
Can skin boosters be combined with other treatments?
Yes. Skin boosters are often combined with SkinPen microneedling to enhance collagen stimulation, with Emface when muscle tone and skin quality are both goals, or with anti-wrinkle injections when dynamic lines also need addressing. Skin boosters are typically scheduled a week or more apart from more surface-active treatments like microneedling, so each treatment works optimally. Combinations and sequencing are planned at consultation.
