What Is Dermalux® Tri-Wave MD
Dermalux® Tri-Wave MD is a medical-grade LED treatment used to improve skin clarity, reduce inflammation, and support skin recovery.
It is a gentle, non-invasive treatment that uses clinically targeted wavelengths of light to stimulate normal cellular activity within the skin. In practical terms, this means calmer skin, healthier function, and better recovery — without needles, heat, or downtime.
Because of this, Dermalux can be used both as a stand-alone treatment and as part of a wider treatment plan to support healing and enhance results.
The Science Behind
LED Therapy
While both methods utilise light, they operate very differently. Lasers deliver a highly concentrated, tightly focused beam to a specific area. LED therapy, conversely, bathes the skin in gentle, broad-band light. This allows us to achieve targeted, visible results without the heat or downtime associated with lasers, utilising specific wavelengths to encourage distinct cosmetic improvements within the skin.
Blue light is widely used for blemish-prone skin because of how it interacts with the bacteria associated with breakouts. The molecules within these surface bacteria do not simply let blue light pass through; they absorb it. Once absorbed, the light energy triggers a reaction that destabilises the bacteria, helping to deeply purify the skin. This specific wavelength is chosen precisely for this interaction, making it a highly effective tool for encouraging a clearer, fresher complexion.
While blue light focuses on bacteria, red light plays a crucial role as your skin enters its recovery phase. Red light penetrates deeper to support the skin's natural repair processes, making it highly effective at calming residual post-blemish redness. It is also widely used to revive dullness and promote a radiant, more even-toned complexion. Knowing exactly when to introduce red light is key — depending on how your skin is behaving, timing may vary. We will discuss this with you during your consultation to ensure your skin receives exactly what it needs, right when it needs it.
What Dermalux
Can Help With
Dermalux LED therapy is commonly used to support treatment of a range of skin concerns, suitable for most skin types.
Blue light targets acne-causing bacteria while reducing inflammation, supporting clearer skin over a course of treatments.
Near-infrared and red light calm reactive or inflamed skin, making Dermalux useful for sensitive and rosacea-prone skin.
Red light stimulates cellular activity, improving skin brightness, tone, and overall radiance over a course of sessions.
Red light supports collagen production, helping improve skin firmness and reduce the appearance of fine lines over time.
Dermalux is widely used after aesthetic procedures to calm the skin, reduce downtime, and support recovery.
Suitable for most skin types as a regular maintenance treatment to support ongoing skin health and function.
The Treatment
A simple, relaxing treatment that fits easily into a normal day. No preparation needed, no recovery time required.
The LED panel is positioned just above the skin while you relax comfortably beneath it. Protective eye shields are worn throughout. Most patients find the experience genuinely restful.
Each session typically lasts around 20 minutes, making it easy to incorporate into a busy day before or after other appointments.
The treatment is completely painless and requires no downtime. You can resume normal activities, apply makeup, and go about your day immediately after.
How Many Sessions
Dermalux is delivered as a structured course rather than a one-off treatment. Many patients begin with a course of 6 sessions, while a course of 10 sessions is often recommended for more established or persistent concerns.
Treatment response is reviewed after this initial phase, and further sessions or maintenance may be recommended depending on individual progress.
The right plan depends on your skin concern, condition, and goals — always discussed at consultation.
Not All LED Devices
Are Equal
Dermalux Tri-Wave MD is the flagship clinical platform within the Dermalux range and offers a higher-specification treatment than smaller or lower-powered systems.
It combines three therapeutic wavelengths in one medical-grade device, allowing treatment to be tailored more effectively to concerns such as acne, inflammation, skin rejuvenation, and post-procedure recovery.
In a medical clinic setting, the quality of the device influences the quality, consistency, and breadth of treatments it can deliver.
Medical-Grade
LED Therapy
Chosen for performance rather than convenience — a system that delivers clinically meaningful results across a range of skin concerns.
Blue, red, and near-infrared light in a single device allows treatment to be tailored to the specific concern — something smaller or single-wavelength devices cannot offer.
The Tri-Wave MD is the flagship clinical platform in the Dermalux range, offering higher specification and clinical consistency than consumer or lower-powered devices.
Suitable as a standalone treatment or alongside other aesthetic procedures where supporting recovery and reducing inflammation are important.
LED therapy is non-ablative and non-thermal, making it suitable for sensitive skin and appropriate for use across a wide range of skin types and tones.
